Twilight: the Costume Must-Haves for Halloween
Twilight had been both loved and scorned for its revitalization of the vampire genre, and nowhere do vampires flourish more than at Halloween! Whether you’re opting for Team Edward or Team Jacob, you’re sure to turn heads as you recreate the popular small town American love story with either a vampiric or lycan twist. With the Eclipse movie hitting the cinema, we have plenty of characters to choose from: with Jacob Black and his ‘werewolves’, Bella and her dad, Edward and the vegetarian vampires, or the more sinister carnivorous vampires.
Twilight Costumes: Bella
Bella is the reflection of normal in the books and film, and we experience the world through her eyes as she comes to term and deals with the supernatural around her, and her undying love for Edward the ‘good’ Vampire. However, her
normality makes her costume a challenge to make stand out. The first stop would be to find a suitable brown wig, and even brown contacts, as well as paying special attention to her neutral makeup. Next, pay attention to some key outfits of hers in the film, such as her signature blue prom dress or (from the first film) her chunky mittens. Thankfully, making a costume of Bella is a rather cheap option if you can be creative.
Twilight Edward Costume
Easily the most popular choice for Twilight costumes is Edward Cullen, the eternally youthful, often tormented, yet romantic vegetarian vampire, and Bella’s love interest. His style is a mix between young (as he’s forever seventeen) yet with an old-world distinction. For example his fitted grey coat is a signature item for any costume of Edward. Pale (and maybe even glittering) skin, gold-brown eyes, and a signature quaffed hairdo are all definitive characteristics. Happily, we can help you along through the Love At First Bite Adult Wig to recreate his style and color, though remember a wig cap in order to keep your actual hair hidden underneath it.
Other Vampires
Whether you dress as the Cullen family clan or the Volturi, remember to pay close attention to the outfits in the film and try to recreate them as best you can. The key here is the eye colors – golden for vegetarian vampires and crimson for drinkers of human blood. Also remember that they don’t have fangs like traditional vampires, and sparkle in the sun.
Twilight Werewolf Costumes
People more aligned with Jacob and his clan can also dress up as the ‘werewolves’ from the books. While not werewolves in the traditional lycan sense (instead being shape-shifters who only take on wolf form) they nevertheless have a few options. You could go as a human, which calls for a modern Native American theme, the clan’s tattoo (as seen on the film) and (for the guys) usually a bare chest. For their beast from you would do well to go down the traditional animal costume route and try to make yourself as wolf like as possible – but keep creative and natural. And remember to grab a few friends – wolves travel in packs!
Whoever you choose, the key to an effective Twilight Halloween costume is understated creativity for authenticity. Have fun with dressing up as them: happy Halloween!
